Assam remembers Bhupen Hazarika on his birth anniversary

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal led the state in paying rich tributes to musical maestro Bhupen Hazarika on his 90 birth anniversary today and described him as an apostle of universal brotherhood.

Hazarika strengthened the fabric of communal harmony in the state, said Sonowal.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with cultural affairs minister Naba Kumar Doley paid floral tributes to the musical genius of the state at Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Sthal here in the Gauhati University campus.

Remembering the Hazarika's rich contributions, Sonowal said, "We need to strengthen our society based on the dreams of Dr Bhupen Hazarika by harmonising the development of Barak, Brahmaputra, plains and hills (of the state)."
 

He also said, "To give an opportunity to our younger generations to grow by following the footsteps of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, we will set up a 'North East Samannaya Kshetra'."

Sonowal also asked students to study Bhupen Hazarika and emulate his values.
