Assam Rifles seize arms, ganja, opium in Manipur

A huge cache of arms and ammunition, ganja and opium was seized by Assam Rifles personnel from Senapati district in an operation.

Troops of 17 Assam Rifles seized the arms and ammunition from Songphel area yesterday during a search operation in the residential premise, an AR release said today.

Among the seized items were one country-made 7.62 mm pistol, country-made 7 mm air rifle, barrel drill machine and other equipment to make weapons, electric wire Bundle, 19 fired case cartridge of 7.62 mm, 60 fired case cartridge of SBBL gun, three rifle barrels and 16 spare batteries.

Also seized were butt of SBBL gun, six mobile phones without battery and SIM, 211 kg of ganja and 450 gm of opium, the release said.
 

The recovered items have been handed over to the Ukhrul police, it added.

In another operation by 20 Assam Rifles, 854.1 kg of ginseng estimated to cost Rs 51,24,600 was recovered on Saturday during routine check of vehicles at Wakmu checkpost in Chandel district, said the release.

Two persons in the vehicle fled into the nearby jungle and the seized material were handed over to the forest department, the release added.
