Assam Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal today assured representatives of six communities that he would take up with the Centre the issue of granting Scheduled Tribe status to them.
Sonowal told the representatives of the communities - Moran, Muttock, Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Chutia and Tea Tribes - that his government has accorded importance to their demands.
"Close on the heels of the earlier stand for endorsing demands of the six communities for ST status, government is also committed to push the demand for early disposal of the issue," the CM said.
He also mooted the idea of setting up of a committee consisting of representatives of the communities to ensure seamless communication.
