Bypoll to three assembly seats in Uttarakhand, including Dharchula from where Chief Minister Harish Rawat is likely to contest, will be held on July 21.

Rawat was an MP from Haridwar when he took over from Vijay Bahuguna as the Chief Minister on February 1 and has to ensure his entry into the state Assembly as a member within six months of being sworn in.

The Election Commission has announced that bypoll to Dharchula, Doiwala and Someshwar seats in Uttarakhand will be held on July 21, Chief Election Officer Radha Raturi said here today.

A notification regarding the bypoll will be issued on June 27. Nomination papers may be filed till July 4. Counting of votes will be held on July 25, Raturi said.

Dharchula MLA Harish Dhami has already vacated his seat to pave the way for Rawat to contest from there.

Bypoll to the other two seats was necessitated as sitting MLA Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank (Doiwala) and Ajay Tamta (Someshwar) were elected as MPs from Haridwar and Almora Lok Sabha constituencies recently.
