The panel which met here yesterday under the chairmanship of JKNPP MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, reviewed the overall functioning of the Health and Medical Education department.

The Committee, constituted to examine the cause of alarming increase in the deaths of patients in hospitals, also deliberated on the causes of the infant deaths in the SMGS hospital, Jammu and the Baramulla district hospital.

The panel called for comprehensive policy for deputation quota and asked the concerned to amend necessary rules in this regard. The issue of private practice by government doctors also came in for discussion.

The panel members said government doctors were doing a commendable job, but there was more scope for improvement.

The Committee decided that the sub-committee headed by Dr Shafi Ahmad Wani will visit Barramullah and Handwara hospitals shortly to get on-the-spot feedback. It was asked to submit its report by January 23.
