Assembly polls: DMK calls for applications from seat aspirants

DMK today invited applications from party workers willing to contest the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and Puduchery, due in a few months.

Party General Secretary K Anbazhagan said that prospective candidates can submit forms from January 24 to February 10.

The fee for general constituency will be Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 for reserved categories and women, he said in a statement.

If a particular constituency is allocated to an alliance party, the money paid by the DMK party worker will be refunded, he said, adding, the cost of application form would be Rs 1,000.

Meanwhile, a report from Coimbatore said 41 DMK workers
 

were arrested there when they attempted to burn the effigy of Dhanpal, protesting the suspension of the party MLAs.

The workers gathered at Sundarapuram and attempted to stage a protest in the middle of the road. As some of them attempted to burn the effigy of Dhanpal, police stepped in and foiled it.

All the 41 DMK workers, including two women, were arrested, police said.
