Assistive aids and living devices were Wednesday distributed free of cost to poor senior citizens at a camp in East Delhi under the government's Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY), an initiative of the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry.

The camp was organised by Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a PSU working under the aegis of the ministry in association with district administration, an official statement said.

In the camp, 2,598 assisted living devices of different categories regarding age-related infirmities estimated to be worth around Rs 50 lakh were distributed among 910 identified elderly beneficiaries of the area. The beneficiaries were registered during the assessment camp conducted by ALIMCO at various locations of East Delhi district in the month of February. The assistive devices, which were distributed, included wheelchairs, tripods, walking sticks, spectacles, crutches and dentures. Around 58 distribution camps have been conducted so far all over country under the RVY in which 60,601 beneficiaries have been served and 1,38,653 appliances distributed.
