Ahead of Monsoon session of Parliament, Assocham today appealed to all political parties to support key reform legislations like GST, pointing out that these will play a key role in the country's economic growth.

"In a democratic set up, it is but natural that there would be a political slug-fest and the Opposition parties and the ruling parties are bound to see clashes and skirmishes on a range of issues.

"But at the end of it all, we are sure that all the political parties would work for the benefit of the economic growth and creation of employment," Assocham President Rana Kapoor said.

He said the Monsoon session is quite crucial as the global investors' community is expecting to see passage of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill as well as resolution of the land acquisition issue in a manner which is win-win for the industrial growth and interest of farmers.

"Farmers' welfare is as important to India Inc as anyone else. In fact, it is the farmers' community and the entire rural population which drives the growth. So, under no circumstances, we can go against the interest of farmers," Kapoor said.

The industry body said it hopes that the ensuing session would be as productive as some of the previous sessions.

"All the major concerns of the Opposition need to be addressed but we expect smooth functioning of Parliament. That would send a very positive signal among investors," Kapoor said.
