A senior officer of the rural development department was today placed on suspension for remaining absent from duty, an official spokesman said.
"The minister of rural development department and Panchayati Raj Abdul Haq Khan paid a surprise visit to block development offices at Tikri and Udhampur and found that Assistant Executive Engineer of (AEE) of Rural Development Department, Krishan Gopal absent from his duty," the spokesman said.
He said that the minister placed the officer under suspension for remaining absent from duty and attached him with the Directorate of Rural Development Department (RDD), Jammu.

At Udhampur the minister interacted with the self-help groups being benefitted by the RDD under various schemes. He enquired about the benefits being provided to them under the schemes.
While addressing the meeting, the minister said that government has placed a vibrant mechanism for monitoring the development initiatives undertaken for the sustained and holistic development of the state.
He said that the present government is committed to provide transparent and accountable governance to the people of the state.
The minister said, "we are not here to harass the officers on one pretext or the other but the motive of the government is to improve public service delivery system modern lines for which cooperation of the officers is necessary."
He said for ensuring transparency, accountability, abolishing red tapism, eradicating corruption and rejuvenating service delivery system, a time-bound procedure for effective functioning of the department has been devised.
He instructed the officers to follow the system strictly and ensure that people do not suffer.
