State-run ASTC operates 647 buses in Assam and the ticket collection stood at Rs 21.91 lakh a day, Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said in the Assembly today.
The ASTC earned Rs 448.32 lakh per month from long distance buses and the rest from city buses, Patowary said in reply to a question of Pabindra Deka (AGP) in the Assembly.
Of the 647 buses, 270 operate as city buses in the state capital, the minister said.
At present 200 of the ASTC buses were being repaired, he said.
Replying to another question of Ramendra Narayan Kalita (AGP), the minister said of the 3235 ASTC employees, 1515 were permanent and 1720 temporary workers.
For the amount given as salaries to its employees, the ASTC requires Rs 6.82 crore per month, Patowary added.
Between April and December last year, the ASTC had a revenue collection of Rs 6657.85 lakh.
To another question on 'Namami Brahmaputra' and 'Namami Barak' in the state last year, organised by the transport department, the minister said Rs 12.10 crore and Rs five crore respectively had been spent.
'Namami Brahmaputra', tagged as India's largest river festival, was held across 21 districts of the state in March 2017 to showcase trade, tourism and cultural possibilities along the Brahmaputra.
'Namami Barak' was organised in November last year to showcase Barak valley's potential to emerge as a hub of trade and commerce.
