swathes of the country are reeling under drought-like condition, the third 'Raahgiri Day' in this silk city is dedicated to water conservation.

The organisers as well as participants spread awareness on conserving water through a signature campaign, sand art and sloganeering during the event yesterday.

The theme highlighting the need to conserve water assumed significance as Berhampur town sizzled at more than 40 degree Celsius , said E T Rao, Chairman of Sankalpa Boarding School, one of the sponsors of the event.

The signature campaign was a hit with the college students, who thronged the venue in large number. Sand artist Subala Moharana's art also helped pull the crowd.

The event was inaugurated by revenue divisional commissioner (southern division) Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma. Berhampur MLA R.Ch Chyaupatnaik, Berhampur Development Authority chairman Subash Moharana, among others, were present on the occasion.
