A powerful car bomb today exploded in Beirut's southern suburbs, bastion of Lebanon's Shiite Hezbollah movement, killing at least one person and wounding several others, a military spokesman said.
The explosion, which occurred between the Bir el-Abed and Roueiss neighbourhoods, comes just over a month after a car bomb in south Beirut targeting Hezbollah, an ally of the Syrian regime, injured dozens of people.
"A car bomb attack killed at least one person and injured several others," the spokesman told AFP. Hezbollah's television channel broadcast images showing enormous damage to buildings and several cars on fire.
