At least 30 mobiles stolen in Delhi on a single day

According to Delhi Police statistics, 4,018 mobile phones have been stolen this year so far as against a total of 12,564 cases in the whole of 2011. The figure for 2010 was 10,701.

Central Delhi, the business hub of the capital, has the highest cases of stolen mobiles in the capital with 966 followed by East Delhi (588), North Delhi (563), South East (549) and North East (528), the figures showed.

New Delhi district registered 250 cases followed by Outer Delhi at 229, a senior police official said.

Of the 250 cases registered in New Delhi, almost half or 124 cases were registered in Parliament Street police station followed by 83 in Connaught Place and 42 in Barakhamba Road.

 

However, no such cases were registered at the police stations in Chanakyapuri, Tilak Marg and Tughlaq Road.

The mobile thieves even managed to strike a Home Ministry office in Lok Nayak Bhavan from where they stole the mobile phone of a joint secretary.
