Deploring honour killings of Dalits for marrying persons from upper caste, Union Minister for State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdoss Athwale today said there was no constitutional bar on inter caste marriages.
However, several honour killing were reported in the country for marrying persons belonging to upper caste by Dalits, he said.
"The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment provided Rs 2.5 lakh for Dalits who married people from other castes, he said speaking at the state level conference for human rights and caste less society, organised by Puthiya Tamizhagam.
Athwale also called for the unity of Dalits to protect their rights.
