Congress leader Ashok Gehlot today hit out at Vasundhara Raje-led Rajasthan government claiming that atrocities against Dalits have increased under BJP rule, days after a minor girl was allegedly raped and found dead under mysterious circumstances.

"Cases of atrocities against Dalits have increased in the last 26 months. Heinous crimes are being committed under the nose of the Chief Minister. Rape of minors have become common but FIRs are not being registered," Gehlot alleged.

The 17-year-old girl, who was persuading a teacher training course, was found dead in a water tank on March 30 in her college premises.

On the intervening night of March 28-29, she was found by her hostel warden in the room of the college's physical trainer, who was arrested and booked under section 376 (rape) of IPC and other relevant sections of SC, ST and POCSO Act.

The former chief minister also demanded an answer from Raje as to why Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, which was opened by his government, has been closed.

The state government closed down the university last year citing feasibility issues.
