The police have formed seven teams besides roping in state Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) to nab the culprits who shot dead two prominent BJP leaders here this week.

However, they said that no headway has been made in the case even after two days of the murders.

Two BJP leaders including former president of BJP's Bharuch district unit Shirish Bangali along with district general secretary of Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha Pragnesh Mistry were shot dead by two unidentified gunmen inside Bangali's office on busy Sewashram road here on Monday evening.

Probe had revealed that two men came on their bike and stormed into Bangali's office that day and opened fire on both the leaders. Bangali died on the spot, while Mistry died shortly after being admitted to a local hospital.

Looking at the gravity of the situation, state DGP P C Thakur along with other senior police officers reached Bharuch yesterday and visited the scene of crime.

"Based on the directives given by the DGP, we have formed seven different teams to nab the culprits. Officials of ATS are also working with us to crack the case," said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Bharuch town, N D Chauhan.

According to him, there is no specific information available yet about the motive as well as the identity of assailants.

"Since no one has noted down the registration number of the bike, we are now relying on CCTV footages, which may have captured them along that stretch of the road. We are now collecting all the footages from shops and complexes on that road to get some clue," said Chauhan.

Bangali was a prominent BJP leader of Bharuch while Mistry was considered as an emerging leader of BJP. Bangali was the president of Bharuch BJP between 2009 to 2012.

"Bangali was known to almost every BJP worker of this area. He was very polite and never had any differences with any one. We are shocked to learn that someone had killed him and Mistry in such a manner. I dont think that the murders has to do anything with their political associations," said BJP's Bharuch district president Yogesh Patel.
