The mother of the 17-year-old girl who was shot at by two youths in the city's Dakshinpuri area has said that the attack was carried out by the boyfriend of another girl with whom her daughter had had an altercation.

The girl, who was last night shot at inside her house in the south-east Delhi locality, is battling for her life at Max Hospital in Saket.

According to her family members, the victim is on ventilator support in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

"My daughter has just one per cent chance of survival," said Shafiq Khan, the girl's father.

Meanwhile, police are yet to arrest either of the two youths involved in the attack.

"Several persons have been detained in the case but nobody has been arrested yet... Investigations are on," a senior police officer said.

The victim's mother, Shahnaz, said her daughter was shot at by the boyfriend of a female acquaintance whom she had slapped following a disagreement yesterday.

"My daughter went to pick up her younger sisters from school in the afternoon. She'd met a female friend of hers then but they got into an altercation and my daughter slapped her," said Shahnaz.

"At around 8:45 P.M., two men barged into our house. One of them said that my daughter had not done the right thing by slapping his girlfriend.

"Before I could understand anything, he asked his associate to take out the pistol and fired at my daughter's neck before fleeing on a bike," she said.
