The attack on the family members of former minister and JD(U) MLA Dinesh Prasad rocked the Bihar Legislative Council today with the members demanding swift police action and arrest of those involved in it.
A few masked men had barged into the MLA's house located in the heart of Muzaffarpur town yesterday looking for the MLA's son Ajay Kumar, who is a BJP leader.
They thrashed Kumar's wife Rekha Devi when they found he was not present there.
Calling the attention of Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh towards the incident, MLC Devesh Chandra Thakur said the miscreants not only misbehaved and beat Rekha Devi, but threatened to kill the MLA of Minapur constituency in Muzaffarpur district and his son.
"Kumar had sought protection from the police a few days ago, but it was not provided to him. Law and order is deteriorating. Today the house of an MLA has been attacked, tomorrow any minister could be attacked. We don't know which way Bihar is heading," Thakur said.
Replying on the issue, state Water Resources minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said he had immediately called up Muzaffarpur SSP Ranjit Kumar Mishra after coming to know about the incident today morning.
"Some masked persons came to the house in which the MLA's son stays with his family. They misbehaved with his wife. The police is investigating the incident but nothing much has come out of it. Security has been provided to the family and a personal bodyguard has also been given to Kumar," Chaudhary said.
He the state government was determined to protect every person and there would be no laxity in it.
Meanwhile, the Muzaffarpur SSP told PTI that investigations were on, but so far other families living in the same house have denied hearing or seeing anything at the time of the incident.
"There is also a shop at the ground floor of the building, which was open at the time of the incident. But the shopkeeper did not see anything. We are investigating the entire matter thoroughly," the SSP added.
