CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat wrote to Swiss Ambassador Andreas Baum, saying the "shocking and horrifying" attack on two Swiss nationals in Agra was "extremely shameful" for Indians.
In a letter, Karat conveyed her regret over the incident involving Quentin Jeremy Clerc (24) and his girlfriend Marie Droz (24) who had come to India on September 30.
They were allegedly attacked by a group of men near the railway station in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur Sikri. According to reports, the Swiss nationals were left bloodied and bruised even as bystanders kept taking photographs and making videos of their plight.

She requested the Swiss ambassador to convey "strong solidarity and assure them that there are many movements and organisations which would be happy to offer them support".
Karat said in her letter that a delegation of the AIDWA had visited the hospital today but were unable to convey their message of support to the couple.
