Senior CPI(M) leader and former minister M Vijayakumar today alleged that the state government and vested interests were trying to sabotage the functioning of the Kerala Administrative Tribunal (KAT) here.

Speaking to reporters here, he said the state government should clear its stand on the matter.

"KAL was set up in the state capital according to the notification of Union government to settle the service cases of employees in government and semi-government institutions. But now there is an attempt by some vested groups to abolish the Tribunal from here," Vijayakumar said.

A Kochi-based lobby, with support of some top government officials was active in this, he alleged.

He said the Tribunal was more important than the proposed High Court bench in the state capital, which is a long pending demand of people of the southern part of the state.

Retaining of the Tribunal here was essential for overall development of the state, the leader added.
