An alleged attempt was made to steal files from the office of Justice Vishnu Sahai Commission probing the Muzaffarnagar riots.

Two persons searched files at the single-member Sahai Commission's office at Judicial Training and Research Institute yesterday, IG (law and order) Amrendra Sengar said today.

According to a complaint lodged by Class IV employee Arjun Kumar, when he attempted to prevent the intruders, they terrorised him with a weapon and fled the spot, he said.

Sengar said that an FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons and security of the commission's office has been beefed up.

"Yesterday, some persons came to my office when I was not present and attempted to break my secretary's almirah," Justice Sahai told PTI.

He said when office peon Arjun objected, they brandished a gun.

"In between, a phone call came and the persons left the spot," he said.

"I was not present in the office at that time and was informed later," he added.

Sahai said he has informed the top officials, including the Principal Secretary (Home), about the incident.

When asked, Justice Sahai refuted reports that threats have been issued to him.
