Social activist Swami Agnivesh today alleged that attempts were being made by ABVP, RSS and BJP to defame the "highest traditions of JNU" as their student's wing was defeated in the campus elections.
"The attempts being made by responsible leaders of ABVP (Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad), RSS and BJP to defame highest traditions of JNU are highly condemnable. It was being done as ABVP lost to Kanhaiya Kumar (JNUSU president). It is totally wrong and such dirty acts should not have any place in politics," he told reporters.
"The incident of Hyderabad's Central University is being re-played in JNU. I am pained to say that there is an unwanted hurriedness on the part of government to foster RSS-BJP men on key positions. May be to fulfil their own interests. It is a big attack on country's intellectual heritage and we all should remain cautious on the issue," Agnivesh alleged.

He condemned raising of anti-India slogans raised on JNU campus, but said the arrest of Kanhaiya even before getting the report of the committee constituted by the Vice Chancellor was wrong. After a probe only appropriate action should be taken, not before that, he said.
Agnivesh also said that if JNU students have said something in favour of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, people should not forget that PDP leaders had claimed that the UPA government used Guru as a scapegoat in its failed bid to stop the rise of BJP at the national level.
In such a scenario, a case of treason should also be filed against PDP, he claimed.
Agnivesh said that the AAP has performed in a better way during the past one year in comparison to earlier governments in Delhi and has also checked corruption.
"But we are not seeing as expected by the people that it will emerge as a viable political alternative in the country. That force is not yet visible," he said.
He also said he was disappointed with good people like Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan leaving the party or forced to leave it.
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP head Arvind Kejriwal should ponder over the issue why good people have deserted him, Agnivesh said.
