Australian national arrested for raping woman

An Australian national was today arrested for allegedly raping a woman working as a cook at his house at Nabadwip in Nadia district, police said.

According to police, the woman, who had worked at Arthar Arel Smith's home in Nabadwip as a cook, lodged a complaint alleging that Smith allegedly raped her.

Based on the woman's complaint the Nabadwip police arrested Smith today.

He was produced before a local court which remanded him to 14-days judicial custody.

Smith is a devotee of ISKCON and was staying in the house near the ISKCON headquarters at Mayapur in Nadia district.

Refuting the woman's rape complaint, Smith said, "I am innocent. Some men have fabricated the case against me by using the lady.
