Austria lodged a legal complaint today following media claims that Germany helped the United States spy on European targets.
The complaint against an unnamed party was lodged concerning "secret intelligence to the detriment of Austria," Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner told the APA news agency.
On the basis of confidential documents, the German press has accused the German intelligence agency BND of spying for the US National Security Agency on European businesses and monitoring senior European, and especially French, politicians.
The small Alpine republic called for "full clarification" from its large neighbour and would also use "diplomatic channels" to this end, said Mikl-Leitner.
