Auto-lifter nabbed by police

A notorious auto-lifter was nabbed by the police after he was intercepted at a police check point in south Delhi's Defence Colony area.

Police have recovered 11 stolen luxury cars from the accused, who has been identified as Mohd Uwaish alias Owesh (29) and claimed to have solved 20 cases of motor vehicle theft with his arrest.

"The incident took place on October 18 when a police team was conducting checking of vehicles at a picket opposite HUDCO Place, near Ansal Plaza. At around 9 PM, the staff noticed a car coming from August Kranti Road. However, on seeing the police picket, the driver tried to escape by taking U-turn," said DCP (South) Prem Nath.
 

The picket staff gave him a chase and swiftly intercepted the car. The occupant of the car was identified as Mohd Uwaish. On verification, the car he was driving was found to be stolen from Kalkaji.

During interrogation, Uwaish confessed to have committed several auto thefts and at his instance, 10 more stolen cars were recovered. Accused also disclosed to have disposed off such vehicles in Meerut and Firozabad, UP, police said.

Further investigation is in progress to arrest his accomplices, who have been identified as Imran and Mohd. Naushad.
