Autorickshaw, taxi, gramin sewa drivers threaten strike

Unions of autorickshaw, taxi, and gramin sewa vehicle drivers today threatened to go on a day- long strike on July 26 over their several demands including issuance of 10,000 autorickshaw permits at the earliest.

Delhi Pradesh Autorickshaw Sangh's General Secretary Rajendra Soni said the decision to go on a strike was taken at a meeting of several transport unions, units of the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh.

"All taxi (black-yellow ones), autorickshaws and gramin sewa vehicles will go on a one-day strike on July 26 over our demands. The Delhi government is not issuing 10,000 permits to autorickshaws," Soni said.

He alleged that the government has also reduced testing period to CNG cylinders from the existing five years to three years besides increasing the fee to Rs 2,300.
