Avantha Power & Infrastructure today commissioned the first unit of 600 MW at its thermal power project in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.
The plant is being executed by Korba West Power Company Limited (KWPCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Avantha Power & Infrastructure Limited (APIL).
The company has already signed a fuel supply agreement with South Eastern Coal Limited (SECL) for uninterrupted coal supply to its plant, a company statement said.
"Avantha Group Company Avantha Power & Infrastructure has achieved an important milestone by commissioning its first unit of 600 MW at the Korba plant. This is a significant stepping stone for the company in its quest to become an important private power producer in the country," Sudhir Trehan, Chairman APIL.
Korba West Power Company is implementing another 600MW capacity in the second phase which will take the total project capacity to 1200 mw.
APIL has a second thermal power plant of 1,260 MW under various stages of construction at Seoni, near Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. This is being operated through another wholly owned subsidiary Jhabua Power Limited (JPL).
