The average selling price of power was 3.7 per cent higher at Rs 2.82 per unit in August over the previous month at the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX).
"With average Market Clearing Price (MCP) for August'15 at Rs 2.8 per unit, IEX Spot Power Market continued to be attractive for buyers-distribution companies as well as open Access Consumers. MCP remained close to last month's MCP of Rs 2.7 per unit," the IEX said in a statement.
"More importantly, discoms have started replacing costly long-term power by cheaper power from the exchange in North and Eastern regions," Rajesh K Mediratta, Director (Business Development), IEX said.

Purchase bids worth 3.84 BUs while sell bids worth 4.47 BUs were received during the month, higher by 16 per cent.
Almost 344 MUs (million units) could not be traded due to constraints on the Inter State Transmission System network (ISTS), almost 9 per cent more than 315 MUs lost in July.
