Singer Avril Lavigne has been given a positive prognosis from her doctors in her continuing battle with Lyme disease.

Five months ago, the singer broke down in tears on Good Morning America while discussing the physical toll the disease - a form of arthritis caused by ticks - had taken on her, reported Digital Spy.

Things are definitely looking up these days, according to a smiling picture Lavigne posted on Instagram.

The "Alice" singer also shared a look behind the scenes of one of her medical appointments.

Lavigne wrote to fans: "Overcoming Lyme Disease. Feels good to have my Dr. Smile and tell me how much progress I am making.

In April, the singer revealed that she'd spent the better part of a year undergoing treatment for the energy-zapping disease.

Lavigne subsequently returned to the stage in July, and has since teamed up with Taylor Swift for a duet and expressed a desire to transition to acting.
