An awareness programme on opening savings accounts was held today for tribals of 10 hamlets around Isha Yoga Centre, on the city outskirts, by the Coimbatore Postal Department.
Assistant Superintendent, Postal Department, Coimbatore region, P Sairam said opening savings accounts would help one overcome these financial needs and dwelt on schemes like 'Selva magal semippu thittam','Prime Minister's Accidental Insurance Scheme and Life Insurance Scheme, to help them.
The program was organised through Isha Outreach,which has been providing educational scholarship for students from tribal and non tribal villages around the Center since 2011, a release said.
About 60 students received scholarship this year, 12 for school education, 41 for college and seven for Polytechnic education.
