In the ongoing political imbroglio for change of guard within the ruling Naga People's Front (NPF), the newly elected leader of the NPF Legislature Party G Kaito Aye along with his colleagues today met the Governor and staked claim to form a new popular government in Nagaland.
Aye was accompanied by four other NPF MLAs and one BJP MLA while staking the claim for formation of a new government with Governor at Raj Bhavan here tonight, said NPFLP spokesman Imkong L Imchen.
"We have demanded the immediate dismissal of the minority government headed by T R Zeliang, who has lost the support and confidence of the majority," he said.
The dissident group also demanded that the incumbent Chief Minister should immediately step down and pave the way for installation of a popular government in the greater interest of the people of Nagaland.
"We have assured the Governor that a stable government will be formed and we will build up a strong relationship with the NDA Government to strengthen the peace process and bring about accelerated all round development of the State," Imchen said.
The NPFLP spokesman also appealed to all sections of the people and the party organisation to be calm, remain firm and united as they have to uphold and respect the mandate of the people.
The dissident group also appealed to the NPF President to release the MLAs who have been forcefully confined under house arrest conditions in Kohima using the state's police forces.
"This action is completely undemocratic, dictatorial and it is a suppression of the rights of the elected members," he said while adding that forceful confinement of the MLAs is disrespect of the people's voice.
He also maintained that there are several elected members who want to strengthen the leadership of Kaito Aye but they are being denied their rights.
Imchen also appealed to the State's forces and law enforcing agencies to ensure that the democratic process is upheld and the law is not vitiated.
