Azam urges Centre to restore UP Haj quota

Uttar Pradesh government today requested the Centre to reconsider its decision to decrease the Haj quota of the Uttar Pradesh.

"I have written a letter to External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid asking him to reconsider the Centre's decision to decrease Haj quota of the state," state Minority Welfare & Haj Minister, Azam Khan said here.

Last month, the Centre had reduced the Haj quota of UP from 1,21,420 to 1,00,020, he said and noted that this would not be sufficient for the state keeping in mind population of the state.

"Centre should reconsider its decision... The exisiting Haj quota of the state should be restored," Khan said in his letter to Khurshid.
