Rapper Azealia Banks has deactivated her Twitter account after igniting a series of controversies with her posts.
The "212" hitmaker has become involved in a war of words with several people since joining the microblogging site a few years ago, feuding with fellow rapper Iggy Azalea, as well as igniting furore over her endorsement of US presidential candidate Donald Trump.
But the American star seemed to be fed up with the platform as a whole, announcing to her nearly 550,000 followers she is quitting Twitter - however, the contentious musician did not leave quietly, reported Billboard.

"American media culture is honestly so disgusting and junky and complaining about it is not going to change it. reading..., seeing stupid articles and has just really filled me up with a lot of bad feelings.
"It's been a great couple of years, sharing opinions and having conversations, but I think I will be so much happier just NOT looking at this. (Americans have the WORST taste in everything.) So my friends, its time to say goodbye once and for all to this account. This account will exist no more. Time for a bit of Mystery... Goodbye."
Although Banks' Twitter profile is deactivated, she still has open accounts on Instagram and Facebook.
This isn't the star's first hiatus from social media - in 2012, she also took a break from Twitter following a number of heated exchanges, but eventually found her way back to the site.
