An Azeri businessman was killed in his office in Istanbul by a former Azeri ex-police chief who was detained by Turkish police a few hours later, local media reported on Thursday.
Etimat Ismayilov, the son of former prosecutor-general Ilyas Ismayilov in Azerbaijan during the Soviet era who also later served as a former minister of justice, was shot in the head and heart, according to Hurriyet daily.
The suspect had come to Ismailov's office for a meeting but the two men began arguing and it became an "armed fight" late on Wednesday, the DHA news agency said.
The reason for their argument was not known.
The former police chief, believed to be a retired colonel and businessman with
Turkish and Azerbaijani investments, then fled as the businessman was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect was then detained by police a few hours later.
