As Das approaches the border, the Pakistani troops apprehend him, butchers his wife and children but spares Das on condition that he would beat the drum for collaborators of the occupation soldiers as long as the war continues.
Das is taken back to the village from where he comes and where he used to play the drum at a Hindu house during the Durga Puja. Pakistani troops drags one of the young women of that house for whom Das develops a "platonic love".
It is the plight of Das, in which he is victimised by both upper caste Hindus and later by Pakistani troops and their collaborators, which will form the story of acclaimed Bangladeshi director Tanveer Mokammel's next film "Jibondhuli" (The Drummer) whose shooting begins in October this year.
The film closes with the freeze shot of Das beating the drum like a man possessed and glimpses of the face of the young Hindu woman inside the burning house, added Mokammel.
"It is the drum of life and death," says the director.
The closing shot will be accompanied by the background score of legendary composer S D Burman's popular Bengali folk song "Takdum Takdum bajey Bangladesher dhol", says the director. MORE
