Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has released a commemorative stamp to mark the country's 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties with China.

China recognised Bangladesh five years after its independence from Pakistan in 1971.

The postage stamp features a picture showing Hasina shaking hands with Chinese President Xi Jinping with both national flags, an image of Bangladeshi founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Chinese Great Wall and Bangladesh's National Martyrs' Memorial on it.

Hasina also released a first day cover and a data card marking the establishment of Dhaka-Beijing diplomatic ties four decades ago.

China was initially opposed to Bangladesh's independence. The two countries established diplomatic ties on October 4, 1975.
