Bangladesh wants to restore the pre-partition communication map and construct more infrastructure linkages with India for better connectivity and trade relations between the two countries.
"Bangladesh and India were an integral part of the Indian subcontinent, but after the partition of the country and following the 1965 Indo-Pak war, all communication linkages were cut up.
"We now need to restore the pre-partition communication map for better connectivity and better trade," Bangladesh's Railways Minister Md Mujibal Haque Mujib told reporters at the Agartala-Akhaura check post here.

He said the 15 km long Agartala-Akhaura rail route which was being constructed and financed by India, would link Bangladesh Railways with the Indian Railways and play a vital role in enhancing trade and communication between the two countries.
The Minister said, twelve projects were being implemented in Bangladesh to develop and connect Bangladesh Rail with the Indian Railways at a soft loan of one billion USD of which Dhaka-Tongi and Khulna-Mongla routes in Bangladesh were extremely important.
Bangladesh was converting its railway tracks to dual gauge where facilities for running meter gauge and broad gauge trains would be available simultaneously and would help connecting with the Indian Railway system at any point, Mujib added.
