B.Ed row: HC notice to Himachal Education Secy, HPU Registrar

The Himachal PradeshHigh Court today issued a notice to the state Education Secretary and the Registrar of the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) on a petition seeking an extension of the last date of admission for the 2016-18 session.

A division bench of Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan also directed the respondents to file a reply within a week.

In its petition, Himachal Pradesh B.Ed Colleges' Association prayed for quashing of the September 3 orderof the Chairman, Department of Education, HPU, urging the B.Ed colleges to complete the admission process by September 18.

It has sought an extension of the deadline till November 15.
 

The petitioner has also prayed that the condition of admitting students to the B.Ed course from amongst those who have appeared in the B.Ed entrance examination and secured the minimum prescribed marks be relaxed and the colleges be allowed to fill up the vacant seats from all the available sources.

The petitioner has also prayed for compensation to its members for the loss they would be sustaining on account of seats remaining vacant.
