TDP MLAs from Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Khammam and Nalgonda districts met the Chief Minister here this morning and submitted a memorandum on the Babli issue.
The Chief Minister, however, said a negotiated settlement was not possible.
"If it could be settled through negotiations, why would it end up in a legal battle," Kiran Kumar questioned.
He recalled that the then Chief Ministers of AP and Maharashtra discussed the issue but could not reach any settlement. "Hence, the matter ended up in court," he pointed out.
The TDP MLAs said the Telangana districts would turn into a desert if the Babli project was completed on river Godavari as it would deprive water to the region.
The two neighbouring states are engaged in a legal battle over the construction of Babli irrigation project and the issue is pending disposal in the Supreme Court.
