Renowned film music director, late M S Baburaj, has been selected for the 'Kamukara Music Award' 2014 instituted in memory of well-known playback singer Kamukara Purushathaman, by Kamukara Foundation based at Thiruvananthapuram.
The award carrying a prize money of Rs 25000, a statuette designed by artist Bhattathiri and a citation will be presented to Bicha Baburaj, the widow of Baburaj, at a function to be got up here on May 23, P V Sivan, Secretary, Kamukara Foundation, told mediapersons here today.
A three-member judging committee including prominent musician Prof Dr Leela Omchery, Music Directors G Ravindranath and M Jayachandran, choose Baburaj, for the award, he said.

The previous winners of the award include V Dakshinamoorthy, K Raghavan, P Leela, K J Yesudas, P Susheela, S Janaki, M S Viswanathan, Vani Jayaram, M K Arjunan, P B srinivas, M G Radhakrishnan, K P Udayabanu, B Vasantha, Shyam, P Jayachandran, L R Eswary and K J Joy.
Kamukara Purushothaman has sang over 1500 songs in about 125 films in various south Indian languages apart from over 4000 light music songs for the AIR, across the country.
