Baby girl with heart outside the chest born in Dindori

A woman today gave birth to a baby girl suffering from a rare medical condition in which the heart is located outside the chest, at the district hospital here.

The infant who is suffering from 'ectopia cordics' condition was sent to a hospital in Jabalpur.

"Sushma (22), wife of Basant Padmakar, hailing from Lutgaon village, gave birth to the child at noon. The baby had her heart outside the chest and it was beating," said Dr G K Samad.

The child would need an urgent operation to place the heart in the chest, he said, adding, as it was not possible here, she was sent to the Government hospital in Jabalpur.
 

The reports of a newborn with heart outside the body attracted several visitors at the hospital.
