Bachchan wishes India gets rid of crimes like rape

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan today said he wishes that the country gets rid of offences like rape.

"I want India to be free of rape (cases)," Bachchan told reporters here when asked about his wish for the Independence Day.

The 73-year-old actor was speaking at the trailer launch of his upcoming film " Pink", in which he plays the role of a lawyer.

When asked if he thinks laws are outdated in India and that we need to rework on it, Bachchan said, "Never ever entertain that thought in your mind."

"Our laws are efficient and so is our law enforcement agency," he said.

Bachchan feels it's disgusting that crime against women still happen in society.

"There are many ways which you and I may want to execute, like a lot of people say put this rapist in the market and we will deal with him. But that doesn't go according to the law of the land. We have to follow it (law)," he said.

"Sometimes we feel disillusioned by the outcome while sometimes we feel righteous procedure is followed. All this will continue," he added.

According to "Piku" actor, one needs to respect women.

"As Indians and individuals we need to educate ourselves to give importance to women in our lives. We should understand their contribution and presence in society. We need to have strong laws," Big B said.

"The base of all is we are losing respect for the female gender and it will come through education and these kind of films. It will take time but it will happen. I am confident."

Recollecting a line that he read from an editorial and liked, Bachchan said, "A women's body is not democracy it is a dictatorship, it is about time the dictator takes charge.
