For their maiden show at the Lakme Fashion Week, the budding designers looked no further than the vast expanse of India and decided to keep the rich heritage of the country alive through their collection.

Kolkata-based designer Somodeep Dutta derived inspiration from the traditional white sarees with red borders from Bengal.

"My label revolves around my love for the culture of my land. There is a very strong influence of Bengali aesthetics in my line," said the designer who used handmade, handloom crafts and drapes in his designs.

The collection has been inspired from the age old tradition of wearing a piece of cloth like "antariya."

Designer duo Sanya Suri and Resham presented their line The pot plant. Through their gender fluid line they promoted 100 per cent cotton fabrics which is much needed to combat the sultry summers of the country.

"There are so many international retailers who have come into the Indian markets. It is important to combat that. The only way to do that is by taking inspiration from our own country, which is so diverse. We don't really have to look beyond India," the duo said.

Poochki creators Eshanee and Anirudh, for their new line laid emphasis on the age old craft of hand block printing.

"As young designers it is very important for us to respect our heritage. It is on us to take our crafts, our artisans alive That's what I did in my collection," Anirudh said.
The collection showcased prints on transparent muted

tones.

"We have also used strong animal motifs because we believe in animal conservation and our label Poochki is also named after our pet cat," Eshanee said.

For her collection outline. Nakita Singh chose Indian fabrics like khadis and linens to give the summer light vibes, again reflecting country rooted inspiration.

The make up for the show was eclectic with strong red eyebrows, graphic eye shadows, colourful lipliners outlined the lips which were sans any lipcolours.
