Boy band Backstreet Boys have shut down the rumours claiming that they and Spice Girls are planning a joint tour.

According to the band things were in the works but plans "kind of fizzled out," reported ET online.

"From what I've heard, they want to do their own tour. I think it's their 20th anniversary, were back in the studio making a brand new album, so everyone's doing their own thing," band member AJ McLean said.

Other bandmates including Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough and Kevin Richardson, tried to backtrack from shutting down the idea entirely, but it was clear the team-up isn't in the cards any time soon.

However, McLead, 38, did leave the open, adding, "God willing, down the road, maybe it could happen. But as of right now it's not happening. They're doing their thing, we're focusing on our thing. But I think it would be something awesome if it did happen.
