Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today mourned the demise of veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey, who passed away at the age of 86.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said that Jaffrey was a son of the soil as he was born in Malerkotla and thus had roots in the state.

Badal said that Jaffrey being a versatile actor was a heartthrob of millions of cinema-goers for his thrilling performances both in Bollywood and Hollywood.

The veteran actor, who gave sterling performances in over 100 Bollywood movies including classics like "Shatranj Ke Khilari", "Masoom" and "Chashme Buddoor" besides leaving his mark in Hollywood and British films, died of brain haemorrhage.

He suffered a fall at his home here and passed away in a London hospital in the early hours of Saturday.

Expressing his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family members, friends and fans, the chief minister prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to them to bear this irreparable loss.
