Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of senior Congress leader and former Punjab Minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, who passed away at Jalandhar today.
In a condolence message, the Chief Minister described Chaudhary Jagjit Singh as a votary of the downtrodden and oppressed sections of the society.
Badal said that his contribution in the welfare of the underprivileged sections of society would be ever remembered by one and all.

Expressing his shock and grief over the demise of senior party leader, Punjab Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa described it as a big loss to the state.
Bajwa said that Chaudhary Jagjit Singh was a towering Dalit leader with unmatched contribution towards the welfare of the state.
He said he had served the state in various capacities during his entire political career.
Congress General Secretary and Incharge of Punjab affairs Shakeel Ahmad also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of veteran leader.
In a condolence message, Ahmad described Chaudhary Jagjit Singh as a great leader of the downtrodden and oppressed sections of the society.
He said his contribution in the welfare of the underprivileged sections of society would be ever remembered by one and all.
Meanwhile, all the offices of the Punjab Government, Board and Corporations remained closed for the second half today in the memory of Chaudhary Jagjit Singh.
