Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today attacked the Congress-led UPA government for "yet another hike" in the petrol prices and described it as an "irrational, anti-poor and a retrograde step."

Badal said the move will further invoke inflationary trend in the economy.

In a statement, Badal assailed the UPA government for "giving free hand to oil companies", which were "arbitrarily" increasing the rates frequently and making the plight of common man from sad to worse.

"The hike in the prices of petrol within a period of little over a month speaks volumes about UPA government's complete insensitivity towards the welfare of the common man," he said.

"People, by and large, are fed with autocratic style of Congress's functioning and are anxiously waiting for an appropriate opportunity to teach them a befitting lesson," the veteran Akali leader said.
