Punjab Congress today alleged that the ruling Akali Dal in a bid to cover "across-the-board non-performance and brazen corruption" in the government was now planning to launch "Morcha" on the issue of separate HSGPC.

State Congress president Pratap Singh Bajwa said if the Morcha (agitation) was launched against Haryana's decision on forming a separate SGPC "it would in itself be unprecedented and might trigger internecine war in the community."

Bajwa lashed out at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for allegedly trying to exploit the Sikh sentiments in Punjab and divert the attention of the people "as his (Badal) government had totally failed to meet the aspirations of the people".

Reacting to the decision taken at the core committee meeting of the SAD here yesterday to organise a congregation at the Golden Temple complex on July 27 when the launching of Morcha would be announced, Bajwa in a statement here said "yet at another level, the aim was to mobilise the support of the Akali Dal which had been completely eroded.."

"Badal has always used the Sikh politics to further interests of his own and that of his family through such agitations (by launching Morchas). It is the common Sikhs who have been making sacrifices and going to jails," he alleged.

He also said before launching the agitation, Badal must clarify the basic issue as to why was he is out to "scuttle" the aspirations of the Sikhs in Haryana to manage their own shrines.

He expressed apprehension that in case the Akali Dal launched this agitation, the situation might flare up.
