A local court today gave permission to CBI to conduct lie detection tests on all the five accused in the alleged rape and murder of two Dalit cousins in Badaun district last month.

"Passing the order on an application moved by CBI, Additional District Judge S N Tripathi said the court gives permission for lie detection/polygraphy, narco-analysis, brain mapping and other scientific tests," assistant district government counsel Gyan Swaroop Gupta said.

The court in its order said though only Central Forensic Science Laboratory at New Delhi has been mentioned in the application for conducting tests, if competent equipment or experts were unavailable there, it could be conducted at any other competent agency which is either under the Centre or the state government.

Earlier, all the five accused - head constable Chatrapal Singh, constable Sarvesh Yadav, main accused Pappu Yadav, his brothers Awadhesh and Urvesh - appeared in the court separately.

The court told the accused that CBI wanted to conduct scientific tests on them and asked whether they were ready for that or not. On this, the accused said they were "innocent" and ready for all the tests.

The court asked CBI as to how much time it would take to conduct all the tests and also inquired about its side effects. It also took detailed information about all the tests from the CBI.

The agency told the court that it takes almost four hours to conduct all the tests on one accused.

The agency said all the tests will be conducted at CFSL, New Delhi, but if required the accused might be taken to Hyderabad for narco-analysis test.

Investigating Officer and Deputy SP (CBI) Vijay Kumar Shukla was present in the court along with his team. CBI had moved the application for scientific tests on the accused on June 17.

The two teenage girls were allegedly raped, killed and hanged in Katra Sadatganj in Ushait area of Badaun district in May.

The state government later recommended a CBI probe into the incident.
