With Parupalli Kashyap getting India a men's singles gold after 32 years in the Commonwealth Games and Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa bagging a women's doubles silver, the Badminton Association of India has announced a financial windfall for the Indian contingent.

Kashyap defeated Singapore's Derek Wong in the final in Glasgow to emulate badminton legend Prakash Padukone (1978 winner) and the late Syed Modi (1982 winner).

The women's doubles pair of Jwala and Ashwini, who had won a gold in 2010 Delhi CWG, had to settle for silver while P V Sindhu and RMV Guru Sai Dutt bagged the bronze in women's and men's singles respectively.

"While Kashyap would be honoured with a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh, Jwala and Ashwini will receive Rs 10 lakh each, Sindhu and Guru (Rs 5 lakh) and K Shrikant and PC Tulasi (Rs 1 lakh)," said BAI president Akhilesh Das Gupta in a statement here today.

Das Gupta also took the opportunity to thanks chief national coach Pullela Gopi Chand, Madhumita Bisht, the support staff, Indian Olympic Association and the Sports Ministry for all the support and said they were now focused on winning medals in next month's Asian Games in Incheon, Korea.

"The Indian team would be further strengthened by the return of Saina Nehwal and I am confident that we will bring back medals from Incheon as well," Das Gupta added.
